Conversation with the Artist, Book Launch-Reading-Performance
Friday -March 1st – 5pm at Eloise Pickard Smith Gallery at Cowell College, UC Santa Cruz. This is part of Vibrations in Paper & Wire exhibition by São Paulo/Brazil – Santa Cruz/USA – based artist, Ronaldo L. Oliveira.
Ronaldo is a prolific up-and-coming artist with a hybrid career (architecture-philosophy-theatre). He brings us a body of work never shown before with over 90 pieces including sumi ink artwork in black and white, colorful rice paper banners and vibrating sculptures. For many years now, and through much experimentation, he has created works from 1-D to 3-D using an array of materials from different papers to different types of wires, and in later instances added vibration into the mix promoting the possibility of a 4th dimensionality in art.
This special evening promises to be engaging and fun with Ronaldo joined by curator Marialice Jacob, as well as poets and writers Sesshu Foster and Professors of Literature and Creative Writing at UC Santa Cruz Karen Tei Yamashita, Micah Perks, and Ronaldo Wilson who will also grace us with a multi-media short performance.
Vibrations in Paper and Wire continues through March 16. It has the support from UC Santa Cruz Literature Creative Writing Program & Living Writers, Chicanx Latinx Resource Center, History of Art & Visual Cultures, History Department, Languages & Applied Linguistics, Latin American & Latino Studies, Research Center for the Americas, Institute for Arts & Sciences, and Art Department.
